2026 Lenten Novena

Please join as we contemplate the Sacrifice of Christ on the Cross and ask for God’s grace and mercy.

Lent is the annual season of spiritual preparation for the Resurrection. We are called to follow the example of Jesus, who spent 40 days in the wilderness fasting and fighting temptation. During Lent, we are to pray, sacrifice, fast, and alms give as we seek to abandon sin and invite God’s grace to transform us.

This year, Lent begins on Ash Wednesday, February 18, and ends on Holy Thursday, April 2. During this time Padre Pio Academy will be praying the beautiful prayer below every day for our community. If you, or any of your loved ones are in need of prayer, please add them to the list below and we will pray for them too.

This beautiful prayer was written by St. Francis of Assisi. "A plenary indulgence is granted on each Friday of Lent and Passiontide to the faithful who, after Communion, piously recite the prayer before an image of Christ crucified; on other days of the year the indulgence is partial." — Enchiridion of Indulgences, No. 22

Prayer Before a Crucifix

Look down upon me, good and gentle Jesus

while before Your face I humbly kneel,

and, with burning soul,

pray and beseech You

to fix deep in my heart lively sentiments

of faith, hope, and charity;

true contrition for my sins,

and a firm purpose of amendment,

while I contemplate,

with great love and tender pity,

Your five most precious wounds,

pondering over them within me

and calling to mind the words which David,

Your prophet, said to You, my Jesus:

"They have pierced My hands and My feet,

they have numbered all My bones." Amen.
